Ever have an online business? If so, you gain a lot of traction, and quite possibly, a lot of sales when you are using affiliate marketing as part of your business strategy.

The premise of affiliate marketing is where an online entrepreneur will partner with what are called publishers or affiliate marketers. These marketers already have a well-established fan base and anything they promote will most likely get popular shortly after.

Even though affiliate marketing is an old business discipline; it still remains as one of the best ways to earn a quick buck online.

A lot of people actually delve into this industry for a variety of different reasons. First is that you do not need any starting capital to begin with. All you need to have is a computer/laptop, a solid internet connection, and a website (not to mention an established fan base).

Next, an affiliate marketer does not need to create the products since their only job is to help promote it. When can you earn money, you ask? Well, that depends on the commission model the online entrepreneur uses.

The most common one is the Pay-per-sale model which is actually a performance-based scheme that will pay commissions to a publisher only after getting a sale (using an affiliate link provided for by the merchant).

However, there are also other schemes as well such as the Pay-per-click or PPC which the marketer is given commissions just based on how many people click on the affiliate link and the Pay-Per-Referral which is a bit similar to PPC, albeit with some minor differences.

How to Be a Successful Publisher?

Well, there are actually some recipes for success if you want to become a hugely popular affiliate marketer. Here are some of the key elements:

  • Search for a Good Product or Service- you, as the publisher, is tasked to promote products and services to your audience. To help increase the number of people that are ultimately going to make the purchase, you have to do your due diligence and search for the products that are actually quite popular for your target audience.
  • Leverage Social Media- as a publisher, you must also have an established presence on social media, especially because there are millions of people using the platform for personal purposes (among others).
  • Look at Online Retailers- Look at Amazon, eBay, and other online retailers out there to find out about products that could potentially become popular, given the right exposure. Although you can promote already established products, competition may be stiffer than it needs to be.
  • Find the Right Partner

The concept of affiliate marketing is for publishers to scour the internet in search of suitable online merchants that they can partner with. Their task is to help promote their partner’s products and services in exchange for a small commission depending on the scheme that is used by the online entrepreneur.

Having said that, you have to research on the best possible merchants that you can partner with, especially those that are on your niche. This makes it incredibly easier for you to promote their items simply because you already have extensive knowledge in your field.
